ABOUT AGE ASSURANCE

How Gayte checks that users meet the minimum age

Last updated: July 7, 2026

Gayte is an adults-only dating and social platform. This page explains how our age-assurance process works, what information is used, what happens if a check is unsuccessful, and how to request help or review.

1. WHY DO I NEED TO CONFIRM MY AGE?

You must be at least 18 years old or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, whichever is greater, to use Gayte.

We may ask you to confirm that you meet the minimum age requirement before you create an account, access certain features, or continue using the Service. Age assurance helps us:

  • reduce the risk of minors accessing an adults-only platform;
  • protect our community and support trust and safety;
  • prevent fraud, impersonation, and attempts to bypass age restrictions; and
  • comply with legal, regulatory, app-store, and platform requirements that may apply to Gayte.

Age assurance is one safety measure. It does not replace moderation, reporting, fraud prevention, or safe dating practices.

2. HOW DOES THE AGE CHECK WORK?

Gayte uses Didit, a third-party age-assurance provider.

You may be asked to take a quick live selfie through Didit's verification interface. Artificial intelligence and facial-analysis technology analyze the image to estimate your age. A passive liveness check also assesses whether a real person is present and helps detect photos of photos, screens, masks, manipulated images, synthetic media, or other attempts to bypass the check.

The process usually takes only a few moments. Age estimation is a model prediction and may not represent your exact chronological age.

If the result is close to the required threshold, inconclusive, or raises a security concern, you may be asked to try again or use another available method. In some cases, this may include an official identity document.

3. WHAT INFORMATION IS USED?

Depending on the method and technical configuration, Didit may process:

  • a live selfie or facial image;
  • facial characteristics and signals used to estimate age;
  • liveness and anti-spoofing information;
  • an estimated age or age-threshold result;
  • confidence, image-quality, warning, and fraud-prevention indicators;
  • session identifiers, timestamps, IP address, device, browser, and related technical information; and
  • if document verification is required, the document image, date of birth, issuing country, document type, authenticity result, and information used to confirm that the document belongs to the person completing the check.

Where supported, Gayte disables supplementary outputs that are not required for the age check, including gender-estimation output. Gayte does not use the age-check selfie to create a public profile photo or a face-search database.

4. WHAT DOES GAYTE RECEIVE?

Gayte aims to receive and retain only the information needed to apply the age gate, prevent fraud, secure the Service, handle retries or appeals, and comply with law. Depending on the method, this may include:

  • a pass, decline, retry, or review status;
  • an estimated age or age-threshold result;
  • a liveness or confidence result;
  • warnings and limited fraud or security indicators;
  • the date and time of the check and a session identifier; and
  • limited technical or audit information needed to investigate a failed or suspicious check.

Gayte does not display your estimated age, selfie, liveness result, identity document, or verification records on your public profile. Other users cannot see this information.

Gayte does not use age-assurance information for advertising, targeted advertising, or unrelated profiling, and does not use it to train Gayte artificial-intelligence models.

5. HOW LONG IS THE INFORMATION KEPT?

Gayte follows a data-minimization approach:

  • Gayte does not store the raw age-check selfie in its own systems.
  • Where supported, Didit is configured to process the selfie without persistent storage.
  • If temporary retention is needed to complete the session, allow a retry, investigate fraud, or handle an appeal, the raw verification media is deleted no later than 30 days after the session closes, unless a shorter period is required by law.
  • Gayte may keep the minimum result showing that the age requirement was met, together with the check date, for the life of the account and for up to 90 days after account deletion.
  • Limited fraud, security, device, session, and audit information may be retained for up to 12 months, or longer only where necessary for an active investigation, legal obligation, dispute, or claim.
  • If an identity document is used, Gayte does not keep a copy in its own systems unless it is needed for an active appeal or legal obligation. Didit is instructed to delete the document and related media no later than 30 days after the session closes, unless a shorter period is required by law.

Where applicable law requires earlier deletion, the shorter period applies. You may request deletion of eligible age-assurance data, subject to lawful exceptions.

6. WHAT IF THE CHECK DOES NOT WORK?

A check may be unsuccessful or inconclusive because of:

  • poor lighting, glare, or an unclear image;
  • more than one face in the image;
  • difficulty confirming that a live person is present;
  • a technical interruption or unsupported device setting;
  • the estimated age being close to the required threshold;
  • an accessibility-related issue; or
  • a fraud, security, or circumvention concern.

Where available, you may try again, use another verification method, or request review. Follow the on-screen instructions and use a clear, front-facing image in good lighting.

7. IS THIS THE SAME AS IDENTITY OR BACKGROUND VERIFICATION?

No. A selfie-based age estimate is intended to assess whether a person is likely to meet the minimum age threshold. It is not legal proof of age and does not by itself confirm a person's full legal identity.

Unless Gayte specifically tells you that document verification was completed, an age check does not mean that Gayte has:

  • confirmed the person's full legal identity;
  • verified every statement or photo on the person's profile;
  • performed a criminal-record, sex-offender-registry, or background check;
  • confirmed the person's intentions or conduct; or
  • guaranteed that the person is safe or trustworthy.

Even if a document is used to confirm age, the result is limited to the information and checks performed. Always use appropriate caution when communicating with or meeting another user.

8. AUTOMATED PROCESSING AND APPEALS

The age check uses automated technology. The system analyzes facial characteristics and liveness signals and may produce an approval, decline, warning, retry, or review result. Because the process is probabilistic, it can produce inaccurate or unexpected results.

If you believe the result is incorrect, you can request a retry, an available alternative method, or review. Submit a support request through https://gayteapp.com and include "Age Verification Appeal" in the subject or request description.

Where applicable law gives you additional rights concerning automated decisions, including the right to human intervention or to express your point of view, Gayte will provide the applicable process.

9. YOUR PRIVACY AND CHOICES

Age-assurance information is handled under the Gayte Privacy Policy and the notice shown before the check begins. Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing, withdraw consent where consent is the legal basis, and complain to a data-protection or consumer-protection authority.

10. DATING SAFELY AND RESPECTING CONSENT

An age check does not guarantee that another user is safe. When using Gayte:

  • keep early conversations within the app;
  • never send money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or financial credentials;
  • avoid sharing sensitive personal, financial, or location information too soon;
  • report suspicious, abusive, impersonating, or underage accounts;
  • meet in a public place and arrange your own transportation;
  • tell someone you trust where you are going; and
  • leave or end contact if you feel uncomfortable or unsafe.

Consent must always be freely given, specific, informed, and ongoing. A match, message, previous meeting, or relationship is never consent to sexual activity, intimate images, or continued contact. Consent can be withdrawn at any time.

11. NEED HELP?
